What is Nonwoven Fabric?
Nonwoven fabrics are produced by various mechanical and chemical processes. Moreover, unlike many known fabrics, it is not necessary to be produced from a yarn. For this reason, Nonwoven fabrics are not produced by knitting and weaving method. These fabrics, which are generally produced from various treated plastics and fabric residues, offer filtering properties with their porous structure.
Nonwoven fabrics, which can be recycled in appropriate facilities, are used especially in areas where disposable products are needed such as hospitals.
What are the Features of Nonwoven Fabrics?
Since nonwoven is a fabric that can be used in different areas, there are various
types of nonwoven fabrics produced according to the area of use. These include
different models such as meltblown fabric, spunbond or heat nonwoven fabric.
The different properties of these determine the usage areas of the fabric.
Nonwoven, which are produced by heating, wet or by melting and twisting, affect
the properties of the fabric as well as the way of production. Some nonwoven
fabrics stand out with their superior filtering properties, while others stand out with
their heat retaining and cold resistance.
Where is Nonwoven Fabric Used?
Nonwoven fabrics, which stand out with their ecological structure and filtering
properties, are frequently preferred in medical products such as surgical gowns.

What is Spunbond (Interlining) Fabric?
Used in many different applications in the textile industry, Spunbond is obtained
from 100% polypropylene raw material.
The difference of spunbond from other fabrics is that it is a type of fabric defined as
non-woven. To be brief, knitting and weaving processes were not applied to
Spundpond fabrics, which stands out with their felt-like structure.
Features of Spunbond Fabrics

Spunbond fabric, which is completely recyclable, is resistant up to 90 °C. It is worth
noting that interlining fabrics have different types, including hydrophobic
(waterproof) and hydrophilic (water retaining).
In addition, the resistance of Spunbond fabric against sunlight can be increased
with additional additives that will provide UV resistance. Spunbond fabrics with
antibacterial properties can be produced in any color from 8 grams to 200 grams.
Thanks to the multi-layer structure of the fabric, the allergen and dust-retaining
properties of fabrics up to 3 microns in thickness reach up to 99,8%. At this point, it
should be noted that human hair is approximately 50 - 70 microns. Moreover, since

Spunbond's usage area is determined together with the weight of the fabric.
Spunbond fabrics weighing 10-25 grams are used in medical products, doctor's
clothes and gowns. Fabrics weighing 150-200 grams are used in jacketing
services and filtering areas in the automotive sector.
Likewise, tea bags and dust bags of broom machines are generally produced
from spunbond fabric.
What is Meltblown Fabric?
Meltblown is a method of micro and nanofiber production. In this production
method, a polymer melt is extruded from small nozzles surrounded by high velocity

Meltblown fabrics, which are generally used in areas such as filters, medical masks,
sound insulation and industrial cleaning, are produced from 100% Polypropylene
(PP) just like interlining fabric. Meltblown fabrics, which can be produced in different
weights from 10 grams to 500 grams, are similarly distinguished by their UV
additive, anti-static and hydrophilic properties.
In addition to polypropylene, meltblown fabrics are produced from thermoplastic
polyurethane and polybutylene terephthalate materials.
Meltblown fabrics, which are more expensive compared to spunbond fabrics, are
generally preferred by mask manufacturers. Medical face masks are produced in 3
layers with meltblown. In these masks, spunbond is used in the first and last layer
and meltblown fabric is used in the middle layer.
Thanks to its microfiber structure, it stands out with its denser fiber structure. For
example, 0,5 - 5 Micron diameter microfibers have higher filtering properties
compared to spunbond.
